Author Interview - Simi Sunny discusses about her books and thoughts on life

Hi, everyone. My name is Simi Sunny. I may be a published author, but I’m also a book worm, anime lover, and artist (I specifically draw anime). Aside from publishing two novels so far, I have a stable job, have terrific loved ones who are by my side, and have been working with my sister on creative projects for her YouTube channel. Those are all the accomplishments I have achieved so far, and I’m proud of it.

In an interview to TALKTOBLOGGER.COM, Simi Sunny gets talking about her books, readers, roaring success, and of course her thoughts on life! Catch the interesting conversation here!

What motivates you to write?

       What motivates me to write are the inspirations that has given me, whether it is from reading books, watching shows and movies, or the world around me. Even when I feel energized and fresh, I would be ready to get out of my seat and start writing whatever’s on the top of my head.

What was the feeling when your first book got published? How did you handle that moment of glory and self-pride, were people supportive or something else?

       When I first published my book, I was sad because I had nothing else to work on. But I eventually get back to writing whatever’s inspiring me. There were also doubts that I would deal with. “What if no one would like it,” I would think. “What if it’s not really perfect? In fact, what happens if I won’t be a successful author?” But whenever I read people’s work, it’s not always perfect as it seems. And heck, no one can be that successful in a short amount of time. Success is earned when you work hard enough to reach your goal. You won’t know when you have reached it, so that’s why it’s best to keep working hard as much as you can. I mean there have been a few people that were supportive, but that’s ok. It’s better than not having any.

How do you take writing novels, as a career or hobby or between both?

In between of both, I would say. Sure, I’m earning money, but I make writing into something I love. I can’t make writing my full-time career, since I’m still progressing as an author. I wish I can write as a full-time job, but I think it will take time. For now, I need to take care of responsibilities while I try to have fun and experiment with my writing.  

For your books you must be doing a lot of research topics and themes. How did you go about it?

       Well, you’re talking to the person who loves to research on stuff. It’s not fun when you talk about researching. But I try to make it fun, as I write my stories. So if you’re ever bored when researching, I could recommend that. Better yet, reading books (fictional or not) can also be part of a research. Think of it this way: if you’re having a writer’s block, it’s ok to take a break and come back to it when you’re writing. And if you read any book that can relate what you’re writing, it might help you spark an idea or see how the writer writes his or her story.  

       

What is the best aspect about your writing that you love most?

       The best aspect of my writing is that it comes from personal experiences. I love to tell my story in a different way, hoping that there are readers who can relate to how the character feels. My stories are not always about entertaining, even though I love to do that. But my focus is to have people understand and be able to relate. Maybe even empathize.

Is getting published traditionally tough? Share your views.

       I haven’t published any of my stories in a traditional way, but I’ve heard about the struggles of it. In fact, I would hear people have a hard time finding legit literary agents, and then get rejection letters from publishing companies, and they feel sad about it. And, when their books get accepted, literary agents and publishing companies would want you to make some changes, even if it’s already perfect. I’m not going to say don’t try this, if anyone wants to take a chance to go through the traditional publishing route. This depends on your preference. All I could say that it’s not easy to go through this kind of process but do give it a try. And hey, it may or may not be successful, but at least you made it. 

Tell us about your recently published book or the upcoming book?

       So, I published my Fantasy/Young Adult novel this year called "The Serpent Girl." It’s about a woman who has been an outcast because of curse that took hold of her. That's what she claimed. But to the fifteen-year-old girl who came across the woman doesn't think so. The story deals with friendship, family, and betrayals. And I will tell you that this story is no ordinary Fantasy book you would usually read. I hope you will all enjoy it as much I did. It’s only available on Amazon.

There are many new writers out there who are aspiring to get their work published. What would you say to them? 

For those who want to get their work out there, do it. Give it your best shot. I will tell you that, whatever path you choose (traditional or self-publishing route), it will not be easy. But do keep working hard as you hurdle through obstacles. One day, you will become successful later on, and your hard work will pay off.
