2019 has been an exhilarating year for Cynthia R. Meeks an her eleven-year-old son Sy. Thus far Cynthia has published a memoir and a children’s book she co-wrote with her son. They are excited to see where this year journey will take them.
What motivates you to write?
My youngest son motivated me to write both books. He is filled with unconditional love and waverly. Sy The Mighty Minder was based on Sy as a futuristic kid, and Numbers, Angels, and God memoir was written based on Sy’s undeniable faith.
Sy The Mighty Minder (children’s book) was my first book I co-wrote and self-published with my eleven-year-old son Sy, and self-published. We were excited, it was a euphoric moment for both of us to have our idea come to life. People were glad to see the book and plush come to life and but they quick to tell me Sy needs a girl sidekick.
How do you take writing novels, as a career or hobby or between both?
Sy The Mighty Minder was our first book, but after I self-published Numbers, Angels, and God (memoir) I decided to quit my job and pursue writing full-time. I have so many other ideas for more spirituality books, and other Minder characters.
For your books you must be doing a lot of research topics and themes. How did you go about it?
Actually we didn’t need to research topics and themes because Sy The Mighty Minder is based off my son Sy, and Numbers, Angels and God is about my 2017- 2018 spiritual journey.
What is the best aspect about your writing that you love most?
Sy The Mighty Minder book gives kids the opportunity to use their imagination about futuristic aliens, and my memoir Numbers, Angels, and God.
Is getting published traditionally tough? Share your views.
We never considered traditional publishing, upon completing Sy The Mighty Minder we were already set-up to self-publish.
Tell us about your recently published book or the upcoming book?
Numbers, Angels and God : A Journey of Faith (memoir) was written based on my 10-day spiritual journey in 2017-2018. The hard working single parent doesn’t know what’s standing in the way of her entrepreneurial endeavor but she’s willing to try anything. When she learns about the notion of unemployed angels and praying to them, she’s immediately intrigued and on board.
Cynthia brings the idea home and Sy her youngest son becomes excited, eager to pray to special angels for what they come to call their special wants. And so, for ten days they begin an evening ceremony that Cynthia designs: seated around a small lit candle, she and Sy tell the unemployed angels their wants, for Sy, a great birthday and party, a car for his older brother Julius (whose skepticism keeps him from the ceremony), success for his book and plush action figure, and even a new house for his family.
After ten days, Cynthia is ready to test the angels. During the testing time, Cynthia’s faith in the candle ceremony waivers as obstacles confront her and her family, none worse than seeing an eviction notice hanging on her front door. Fortunately, Cynthia sees special numbers—particularly 11:11—at exactly the right moments, easing her doubts and bolstering her faith. By contrast, Sy’s trust and faith never waiver.
